The Entrepreneur Spotlight has been down and out for a while. It’s back this June 2013 with a feature on “Creative Delights” run by Vaishali Raithatha.
Vaishali, 34 has over 7 years of professional experience as an HR person and is now an entrepreneur and avid crafter by choice. Creative Delights is a sole proprietorship established in January, 2012. Vaishali has not had any exposure or training in entrepreneurship but her love for unique handmade gifts, an urge to create beautiful and functional products has put her on the entrepreneurship track.
Here is a look at her story…
How did you get the idea to begin this venture (detailed description of idea generation & implementation of idea)?
I have always been fascinated and obsessed with handcrafted gifts and accessories ever since my childhood. Everywhere I travelled, I found myself buying more than I could possibly use or gift to my near and dear ones.
The decorative colorful beads which are used to make jewellery or the art with which colorful candles are carved or the aroma that fills the house with beautiful lush handmade soaps, all of these lead me to indulge myself into this creative world.
I took a break from my work to move to Moscow city with my husband in 2011.Moscow is a cosmopolitan city, bustling with life, arts and culture and so much to offer. I discovered my creative side there, met many interesting people whose passion and dedication inspired me to make good use of every bit of time I had there. I indulged in many creative crafts, attended workshops of my interest and thoroughly enjoyed acquiring new creative skills.
Being a member of the international women’s club of Moscow also helped me get exposure to various events & exhibitions that took place frequently in the beautiful city.
Aimed at initially satisfying my own desires, as I ventured further into this enthralling art, I started enjoying making them as much as using them and gifting them to my friends. Subsequently they encouraged me to convert this hobby into a profession and that’s how the journey called Creative Delights began!
What were the supporting/motivating factors in setting up this business?
My inspiration for starting this venture came from the bustling Moscow city, friends who constantly encouraged me and my loving husband who always supported me.
What is your USP (unique selling proposition)?
I strongly believe that every handmade product is a piece of art that reflects the passion and love put in by the artist and that’s what makes it special. I try to make my product as special and as custom made as possible.
My soaps are SLS free, created in small batches using a variety of pure, natural essential oils. These ingredients are carefully chosen for their many benefits (for instance I make pure goat milk soaps, pure glycerin soaps etc)
My candles are made either with bees wax or soy wax both of which are the most natural.
Beads that I use to make jewellery/other accessories are from my collection of beads which I have handpicked from various places that I travel , (Murano glass beads from Italy, crystals from Greece, many semi precious beads from Estonia etc
What is your vision for the venture?
I would like to start a chic little store in the near future
What sort of growth strategy did you follow?(mention landmark events alongwith year or exact date if possible)
A simple strategy of following my heart and passion. I love to showcase my work through various exhibitions and events, which also enables me to meet many people and get a first hand feel of how they like my work , a lot many people have approached me to tie up with their boutiques/stores which I may consider in future
Any Steps That You Are Taking To Help Society In General & People In Particular?¬
I would also like to encourage local craftsmen and engage them in my work in creating new products and also showcasing their hard work to a much larger audience.
What are the problems that you are facing?
Marketing and accessibility to a wider audience is sometimes a challenge. To find the right segment and being able to position the products is the key.
1. WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF?
a)FIVE YEARS FROM NOW
I see having a chic little store of Creative Delights and many more delighted customers
b)TEN YEARS FROM NOW
Would aim to have a well networked group of craftsmen who are being supported through my work and also a much wider customer base
c)TWENTY YEARS FROM NOW:
Probably start an institution in the areas of Handicraft jewelry, soap making candle making and many more such creative art forms.
Any Plans Of Expanding The Business: YES
I would like to take it one step at a time by starting a small Chic store to begin with.
ANECDOTES/EXPERIENCES (GOOD )
It’s always great to receive feedback from my customers once they have purchased my products. There have been many instances when the word of mouth spreads and friends of friends get in touch with me after having seen a particular product at their home and wanting it for them as well ( of course with a custom touch).
Facebook has helped me too; check out my page on Facebook right here
Nothing so far.. Touch wood!
ANY ADVICE FOR FUTURE ENTREPRENEURS?
If you have passion for what you do success will follow, whatever you do, indulge yourself with all the love, passion, and follow your heart, other than this there can be no rules in life
WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS?
STRENGTHS: my passion to make and keep everything around me beautiful,
WEAKNESSES: Commercial approach and marketing
OPPORTUNITIES: Collaboration with other creative artists
THREATS: Could be if I don’t expand my dreams!
WHAT INNOVATIVE WAYS OF DOING BUSINESS ARE YOU USING?
Social Networking, Events participation
WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT? HOW DO YOU APPROACH IT?
I view customers as a “key ingredient” in the process of my creative work. I don’t necessarily view them as a source of Business. The more engaged and strong relationships with my customers help me in bettering my products and also eventually resulting in a delighted customer.
What makes you different from your competitors?
I think every creative person had a certain uniqueness to offer through their art form, and i focus on creating an experience through my products and not just a commodity. So this for sure will differentiate me from the rest!

When the twenty something Ruchi Chopra wanted to surprise her friend with a pizza she found that it was very difficult for the people at the pizza outlet to understand that the place to which the pizza had to be delivered and the one from which payment for it had to be collected were indeed different. It was then that it occurred to her that there must be many others who like her who want to do something special for their dear ones which time or geographical distances may not permit. With this realization Ruchi found her niche in the market and set up her creative venture aptly called “Any Surprise Any Place”. Her company won NDTV award for the most creative business idea and it allows anyone who wants to surprise their loved ones with something as simple as a box of cookies or chocolates or as bizarre as live band, a clown or showering petals from a chopper to do so. The process is surprisingly simple one has to just log on to the company’s colorful and interactive website to order a surprise. Flexibility is the key here because those who want to order an exclusive surprise can call and discuss their requirements with Ruchi herself. The company is just the thing city stressed folks with no time to go out and buy that gift or wish a loved one in another city could do with.
