5 Tips to Sweeten Your Success on Bizsugar

What is Bizsugar?  What can it do you for?  That’s not what I’m going to talk about.  If you are already on Bizsugar then you know the answers to those questions.  After being on Bizsugar for a little over two months now I believe there’s a key to succeeding here.

Having read, voted and been inspired by stories and write ups posted on the site, here are 5 tips  that I feel will work to your advantage on Bizsugar

Frame a Great Title

I’m not the first person to say this but a good title makes all the difference.  It is really the reason why people choose to read or not to read your article, story or blog post.  This is why success on Bizsugar starts with your title.

Are you entirely clueless about what works on the site?  Take a look at the hot topics to learn how interesting and attention grabbing titles can be.  You will end up with a fair idea of what a good title looks like.

The hot topics have inspired many a good title which I believe I have framed.  They have also been an excellent resource for topic ideas.  Like a photographer who clicks pictures of the same object from different angles, the titles of the stories on Bizsugar can be turned around many times over to give a different perspective of the same issue.

Choose the Right Category

Bizsugar has a number of categories under which you can submit an article but I’m not going to tell you what those are.  Neither am I going to talk about how comprehensive they are and how you can determine where your story fits in.  That I leave you to explore.

But the point I’d like to make is…choose the right category when you submit your story.  Take time to sift through the options that come up when you submit your story and consider which category would be most appropriate for your story.

Don’t choose “marketing” because you think your article is about marketing…get specific…case studies would fit in to success stories while advertising needs to be posted under advertising.  This is the most critical part in reaching out to your target audience.  Be specific instead of adopting a generalist approach.  That is the only way you will reach out to readers to for whom your work matters.

Read, Read & Read

As a business owner, blogger or writer, you are bound to have some days that are good and other days that are not so good.  That is natural.  In that case how does Bizsugar help?

I would say…the plethora of options as far as categories and stories go on Bizsugar is absolutely mind boggling.  Log on to the site for just ten minutes every day and you won’t have to go anywhere else for ideas.

From topic ideas to packaging content to commenting that works and sometimes doesn’t the only way to learn on Bizsugar is by reading.  Each day when I log on to the site to submit a story I spend some time on each section…on some days it could be the recently submitted stories on other days it could be what’s hot but yes…reading has given me valuable insights in to:

  • What makes people sit up and take notice?
  • What is good writing?
  • How to engage your readers?
  • What’s in the news?
  • What are people reading?

That’s why I say…read, read and read to succeed on Bizsugar!

Grab a Widget

When I started guest blogging in January this year I was quite uninitiated in to promoting blog posts and related stuff.  But the blog I wrote for and still do had these Bizsugar buttons that drew my attention to the site.

Later, when set up my own blog at the end of February, there was no doubt in my mind about the fact that the one widget I absolutely wanted on my blog was a Bizsugar voting button.  The visibility that it creates for a business blog aside, looking at the number of Bizsugars my stories earn has spurred me to do better as far as my writing goes.

As a business owner and blogger each one of us needs some validation of the fact that our work is good, has been recognized, other people are in agreement with what we say and they like our story enough to go out there and vote for it!

Don’t Be Afraid to Be Yourself

To conclude I would say Bizsugar gives you the confidence to be you…speak your mind and say it like it is.  You may have the most rebellious way of looking at things and sometimes might be torn between tough choices…so what?

You can still write a story about two sides of the same coin and be open enough to admit that this is what you’ve done but you’re still not sure what road to take.  Honesty and speaking from the heart are two things that win you audience attention everywhere and Bizsugar is no different.

Stamp your work with your own distinct style and you will find people who recognize and appreciate you for that right here on Bizsugar.  You don’t have to offer a perfect solution or be diplomatic…brazen, brash and daringly different all fit in with coy, conservative and basically every other “type”…on Bizsugar there’s room for everyone.
